Working from home allows me some much needed time for myself. However, never underestimate the company that Netflix has to offer. Since September 2016 I have been an avid Netflix consumer (all day, everyday.) I have tackled shows like: Orange is the New Black—again, NCIS, How I Met Your Mother, Criminal Minds, and currently The Office.
Through the many months of consuming I have been prompted with a handful of quotes that really hit home. But none that stuck with me like the quote spoken by actress Paget Bernero (Emily Prentiss) in Criminal Minds.
“It’s better to write for yourself and have no public, than to write for the public and have no self.”
Originally this quote was written by Cyril Connolly. Being a journalism major and having the passion to write but not always the audience I had imagined—I’ve always held myself accountable to stay true to myself. While I toss the oldest cliche in the book at you, keep in mind losing your voice is just like losing a skill you were once proficient in. Through all the jobs, mediums, and personas that we take on everyday—it can be hard to stay true to yourself when all is said and done. What started out just as another work day with Netflix in the background, turned into a sublime self-reminder. Yet another #RealityCheckByRachel
